What if I hardly ever run my gasoline engine?

Since we have another vehicle with better highway mileage, we could go long periods without using the gasoline engine on our Pacifica. But wouldn't that be bad for the engine? How often does the engine need to be used? Is the vehicle programmmed to take care of that on its own or do we need to keep on top of that ourselves?

It's still better to use it occasionally to help lubricate the moving parts to avoid future problems.
