We have got a 2020 EV with about 50k miles on it. Like 2 years ago, we bought a lvl2 charger online, and it has been working great until today when the charger wouldn't unplug from the car.
The release button felt a lot more clicky than usual. After a few searches, I found that many people said their chargers (different brands) had melted and gotten stuck. So, with a bit more force, they managed to pull it off.
But now, there is a slightly burned plastic smell. One of the prongs on the car is missing the plastic coating around the metal, and inside the prong hole, there is some melted plastic residue. The plug itself is in rough shape (one of the holes lost all of its plastic and now has exposed metal.
I am not sure if it is an issue with the charger or the car's port. I think that the charger is the problem, but if we take it to the dealership, I bet they will blame the non-OEM charger (it is understandable, somehow). The car came with a slow charger, and we upgraded it for faster charging.
Now I wonder if we should just buy a new charger and move on. Or, do we need to replace the port?
