Been getting this weird burning smell from my van when the engine fires up after idling to warm up in the chilly weather.
Kind of sketchy, right? Thinking it might be the serpentine belt acting up or something.

Anyone else run into this? What do you think could be going on?

Looks like something might be jammed up, making that belt heat up as it fights to move over a stuck pulley. Are you hearing any screeching noises that comes with it?

Ok, so if your catching a whiff of something burning from your engine, it could mean your oil filter housing is leaking. This little troublemaker is tucked away deep in the center of your engine. When it starts to leak, the heat can turn that escaping oil (and maybe some coolant) into a nasty burnt smell.

To get to the bottom of it, pop open the hood and check out the passenger side of the engine. That’s where you’ll find the oil filter housing cap. Grab a flashlight and see if you spot any pesky leaks.

Yup, that does sound sketchy! Could definitely be the serpentine belt, or maybe even a bit of oil or coolant dripping onto a hot part.
